- The statement on the Swoosher this advertisement is trying to make about the environment is that the shoes are environmentally friendly. This advertisement points out that every part of the shoe is made from recycled material, for example the recycled tire shoe. They are trying to go against the corporations and Nike itself because they when they say how to Unswoosh Nike they are saying how to bring them down. Im guessing they think that Nike and other big name corporations make new shoes in a harmful aspect to the environment.
- The advertisement is trying to show that the culture we live in now try to make the best kind of product for a cheap or in a way that technology can help out-do the way we used to make shoes. The Swoosher itself is trying to show that we don’t need the most top of the line shoes and still be happy. As you can see in the image they try to make the shoe out of an entire recycled product. So they are helping the environment and giving people what they want for cheaper.
- The main features on the Swoosher are the recycled material the whole shoe is made from. The claims made about social and political reality are that the culture we live in today people are wanting the best or they are wanting something that will hold them up. With the way our environment and economy is looking people also are needing things for cheaper that will also help the environment, so it’s a win-win situation for both aspects.
- The advertisement navigates the line between a real product and parody on the commercialism of companies such as Nike in the way that the product they are trying to make is competing with all the other companies around them. Nike sells shoes that are high class and what people are wanting and the other shoes are selling for cheaper yet most of the shoes they sell are recycled from possibly Nike shoes. Which if people can buy Nike shoes for cheaper than how is that helping the Nike company.
- The advertisement is designed to show you all the materials that are used and how they can help save the environment. The hand drawn anti logo is just showing that they are trying to cut out big corporations from buying material and selling shoes for more money than they need. The advertisement is designed to in a literal sense, get people interested in helping save the environment by buying shoes that are made of recycled material. In a metaphorical sense he is trying to show that we are walking all over our planet by cutting down trees taking yarn and other materials that are not really needed to make new shoes when we have materials that could be recycled to use. This advertisement reflects Adbusters’ political sensibilities because in his ad he is showing an anti corporate attitude towards the bigger companies. He is just taking their shoe and marking out their symbol, which is saying they don’t want them around anymore.
- The picture alone would just show that they have a shoe just like any other corporation but with the words around it explaining what each part of the shoe stands for gives a bigger impact on the reader. It really shows what he is trying to advertise in the photo that he isn’t selling a shoe, he is trying to sell the idea about kicking the bigger corporations out like Nike. The shoe can represent Abusters,’ the wording around it can say what they are wanting to do or how they feel about the other corporations.
- The Unswoosher logo (marking out the actual logo with a pen) can be seen in two ways. One since the fact that they only used a sharpe or any kind of marker is really showing that they don’t really give a rats butt about the other companies they are really just trying to get rid of the idea they have behind their company. The second reason behind marking out the other companies symbol is to just try to cover up what the bigger companies are doing. The design allows the logo to achieve its message just by covering up the real logo on the shoe with their own, showing that they are just trying to cover up with the other companies are doing.
